Mark your calendars to join us at 10 am, this Saturday, August 5, along the scenic Amish buggy trails and through the charming and historic town of Millersburg. We will meet at Holmes County Parks Trailhead, 62 N. Grant Street. Dual CHC/AVA 6 mile/10k credit for members of both CHC and the American Volkssport Association (AVA) will be given. Afterwards, since it’s a long drive and we’re such lovely leaders, we’ll provide a light lunch just for you. You’ll be done in plenty of time for you to visit the Millersburg shops and stop at local farmers markets on your way back to Cleveland.
As usual, CHC members will circle up and hike together at a sensible moderate pace. However, AVA walkers, who arrive from a 5+ state radius, leave the start point independently anytime within a 3 hour window and go at their own pace using a map and directions with points of interest to see.
AVA is very different from CHC. The local club, and other clubs across the country, each usually have less than a handful of group walks a year. There are national events, such as climbing up to Crazy Horse, and international events with 1500 attendees from around the world. (The next one is in Finland.) There are also thousands of walks members can do for credit anytime, totally on their own, in the USA and worldwide just by picking up a map and directions with points of interest at designated hotels, libraries and stores in cities and even the tiniest towns, or by downloading the maps online. We have done walks individually on road trips in cities across the country. It’s a great way to break up long car trips. More information can be found at AVA.org.
Note: Parking at the trailhead can be crowded on a Saturday so carpooling is recommended.
As of this writing the weather is supposed to be mid 70s and gorgeous. Hope to see you on Saturday!
