Benefits of Joining

Although you don't have to be a member to hike with us, there are benefits to membership. Members have access to our monthly newsletter (Newsteps), early registration for our excursions, and events at our private facility, Camp Onwego. Our newsletter and website provide mileage records, social events and information about other club activities such as worldwide travel and hiking excursions. Miles hiked by members hiked are tracked and we recognize members for significant mileage achievements (100 miles, 500 miles, and each 1000 miles).

How To Join Us

To be eligible for membership, you must complete six hikes as a visitor within one year. Any hike leader can provide you with a hiker card to submit to him or her at the end of your hike to track your progress toward membership. After six hikes have been reported, you will receive an invitation to join CHC via the postal mail.

Your invitation will include an application and a liability release form. These forms must be completed and returned to the Membership Committee, along with the initiation fee and initial calendar year’s dues.

Membership is effective the first Sunday following receipt of your completed application, liability release, dues and initiation fee. After that you will receive a packet with information about the club rules and other helpful information.

Dues for new members as well as a one-time initiation fee are listed on the Member Annual Dues and Fee Schedule. Your initial dues payment covers the period between your effective date and December 31 of the same year. (First-year dues for new members are reduced by 50% for memberships effective on and after August 31 OR September 1.)  Renewal dues (for the next calendar year) are payable annually by December 31 each year thereafter.
