The family of Cedric F. Plavney, age 90, shared the following. On December 25, 2025, surrounded by his loving family, his spirit left his earthly hiking boots behind in favor of heavenly trails of joy and glory.  A CHC member since 1987 and former director of the Club, Cedric led hikes locally, on the VA Creeper Trail, on various parts of the AT including Baxter State Park and Mt Katahdin, on many NC landmarks including Grandfather Mountain, Mt Mitchell, and Linville Gorge. Despite telling his wife, Eloise, that he would never hike for fun after his time in the Army, he ultimately hiked over 23,000 miles with the Club.  

Visitation will be Jan 2, 2026 at 1:00PM, service at 2:00PM, at Busch Funeral Home 7501 Ridge Rd., Parma, OH, 44129.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to the Cleveland Hiking Club.
