Volunteer Appreciation Dinner

Bob Maruna, a longtime member, generously left a bequest this year to the club to help pay for an extra special Volunteer Dinner. The club hosts the dinner each year as a small token of appreciation for the work our volunteers do, to keep the club operating so well. Bob wanted to express his appreciation for all the years of volunteer effort that enhanced his enjoyment of our club. Those who knew him will remember that he loved a good party, so this bequest is totally in character for him.
As many of the older members will remember, Bob Maruna was the initiator, or instigator of many club traditions. He hosted many pig roasts and rib roasts at Camp Onwego. Bob originated passing out candy at mid hike water breaks. He was also a big proponent of after hike tailgate parties and a lover of scotch whisky. In Bob’s memory, this year’s Volunteer Dinner will be a rib roast with baked potatoes, corn on the cob, the usual salad, mixed fruit bars and the appetizers and desserts you’ve come to enjoy. We’ll also have a selection of scotch and candy that Bob would have appreciated. There will be vegan and vegetarian main course options for those who would like a rib alternative.
If you have a good story about Bob Maruna, we’d like to hear it. We’ll set aside some time during the dinner for members who would like to relate some stories or adventures about hiking with him. Also, if you have any pictures of hiking or partying with Bob, please send them to Julie Wojcik or Bob DiVincenzo, so we can put together a memorial display (before August 19th).
Please refer to the May Newsteps for the requirements to attend the Volunteer Dinner. Reservations should be made to Rita Bennett at CHCreservations19@gmail.com before August 19. (Indicate desire for Vegan or Vegetarian meal when reserving dinner reservation).
If you would like to give a donation for the raffle (gift card, hiking related item, etc.) or help (set up, serve food, or clean up, etc.) on the day of the dinner, please contact Julie by email (put CHC in the subject line).
