From Leah Schmidt

We will begin our hike at 10:30 AM, hiking 4 leisurely, but sometimes hilly, miles throughout the community of Lakeside Chautauqua. We will meet in the Parking Lot of the Danbury School Building.  Lakeside is a beautiful historic Chautauqua community that was established about 150 years ago. We will walk along the APT that borders Lake Erie, we will visit the Parks, and tour the business district and residential areas. There will be a Farmer’s Market from 8:30-12:00 and numerous quaint shops to enjoy before or after the hike. There are fees to park and an admission fee to enter the Lakeside Community.  Parking at the Danbury School Lot is $3 (you have to go to the Southgate Welcome Lot to purchase the $3 Danbury School Parking lot pass, which must be displayed in your car’s windshield). A 4 hour admission pass is $10; A 2 hour shopping pass is $0 if validated by a shop keeper or Farmer’s Market Coordinator. Passes are obtained at the entrance gates (NOTE: the 5th St Gate does not accept cash). For more information about Lakeside Chautauqua visit:  https://lakesideohio.com/

We will then drive over to the Marblehead Lighthouse at 110 Lighthouse Dr Marblehead. We will meet up at the Lighthouse Parking lot at 2:00 PM. The distance between Lakeside and the Lighthouse is a short few minutes drive. Hikers will have the option to tour the Lighthouse prior to our 3 mile leisurely hike. There are 77 winding steps and a $3 Cash Only Fee to tour the interior. The Marblehead Lighthouse has been in operation for over a century, and is the oldest lighthouse, on the Great Lakes, that has been in continuous operation.  We will end our hike with a short drive over to the Rocky Point Winery 111 West Main St Marblehead, OH

Note: It was recently suggested to me to have hikers park in the no-fee Marblehead Municipal Parking Lot and carpool over to the 5th Street gate. The Marblehead Municipal Parking Lot is before the overhead quarry conveyor and diagonal from the Danbury Police Department (513 W Main St). There are about 12 no-fee spots available outside of the 5th Street Gate for 2 hour and 4 hour guests. The 2 hour and 4 hour passes can be obtained at the 5th street gate. (The 5th street gate has an arch and is across from the Erie Market.)
