Gear Swap and Hot Dog Lunch

Our last Gear Swap was in June 2022. It’s time to look through your closets, basements, car trunks and garages for new or “gently used” hiking gear, clothing, and boots that you are no longer using for our upcoming 2024 CHC Gear Sale/Swap event.
When: Saturday, June 15, from 11:45 am – 2:00 pm
Where: Camp Onwego
Hikes: Three hikes will be scheduled for the morning of the gear sale (see June hike schedule), all leaving from the parking lot prior to the swap and lunch.
Lunch: Hot dogs and chips will be provided at 12:15 pm after the morning hikers are back and the swap is underway in the cabin.
How: Members can drop off merchandise on the day of the gear sale by 11:00 am or prior to the three hikes by placing items on the porch of the bunkhouse or bringing to the cabin. All items must be tagged using a special sales slip for the swap (see below). Sale tables will be manned by swap captains who will sell tagged merchandise only.
Additional Ground Rules
Pricing: We are requesting that all items for sale be marked in dollar increments. We will not have coins available for making change.
Collecting Items in Advance: For those members that cannot make it to camp for the sale/swap event but have merchandise to sell – the following designated volunteers will accept items at the hikes they attend beginning in May: West side – Lucy Erba, Jane Grose, Connie Kearns, Mary Kurtz, Janet Orban, Rhonda Skalsky; East side – Barb Appel, Jane Hill, Bob Kimmelfield, Betsy Luce, and Zelfa Sawaya. They will make an announcement during the pre-hike circle and will only accept items that are tagged with our special sales slip. Please include a self-addressed stamped envelope to mail back your sale proceeds if you will not be attending. If you are donating the proceeds to CHC, there is no need for an envelope.
Sale Proceeds: If you wish to donate the proceeds from the sale of your merchandise to the club, the money will be used for Kid’s Day and the Volunteer Appreciation Dinner. Please mark your sales tag accordingly.
Unsold Items: There are three options for items that are not sold. The seller can take the items back home; can authorize the club to donate to charity; or if not present to retrieve on swap day, can retrieve from the bunk house at camp until the end of August. All items remaining on September 1 will be donated to charity. Again, please mark your sales tag accordingly.
