1. Leo Deininger, who joined CHC in 1974 and hiked more than 39,000 miles with the club, slowed down due to health issues in the last couple of years. He had hoped to get back to hiking soon, but that would not happen due to a cancer diagnosis. Leo passed away peacefully on July 16. He was in hospice care at home. After resting comfortably in our guest bedroom for 5 of the 6 days that he was here, he was strangely agitated on his final day. At the recommendation of hospice, I gave him an anxiety pill that didn’t seem to help much: kicking and swinging his arms were the focus. He finally quieted down in the early evening. When I gave him his nighttime meds he seemed fine. When I checked on him a while later, he was gone.
There will be no service. Some of his ashes will be spread on Doan Brook and a celebration of his life will take place later this summer. If you have any pictures for the online photo album to be displayed on our club’s website, please email them to Terry Marquard at tm4hiking@gmail.com

2. With great sadness, we announce that Club member David Schiraldi has passed away. David has been a member since 2019 and accumulated over 7700 miles on the trails. He also served as a hike leader since 2020. There will be a memorial service on August 9th at 1:00 P.M. at Fioritto Funeral Home, 5236 Mayfield Road in Lyndhurst.
David’s always pleasant demeanor and interesting discussions will be sorely missed, especially by those of us who hiked with him most often in North Chagrin.
