We have made available digital versions of the upcoming 26 mile hike that can be downloaded to your smartphone or watch which will lead you through the course route as you walk. If you use or have a navigation app this may work for you. These are also available on our website (towards the page bottom) on the Hike Schedules page. Below are some tips on how to use. AllTrails:
- Tap on the AllTrails Link: https://www.alltrails.com/explore/custom-routes/2026-cleveland-hiking-club-26-mile-hike-3355762?u=i&sh=drzltn
- The AllTrails app will open and show the map.
- Tap on the heart icon in the top right corner to save the map (see pic)
- AllTrails Plus users can download the map for off-line use
- At the trailhead:
- While within range of a data signal, tap the trail card you want to view
- On the trail details screen, tap the ‘Map’ button
- The trail map will load into Navigate, along with your current location
- Begin navigating by tapping the ‘Start’ button. The verified route for the trail you’ve loaded will remain green once you tap ‘Start’; the route you’ve traveled will be marked with a blue line.
- You can swipe up on the bottom drawer to see all navigation options or edit your activity information (pause navigation, change activity type, etc.)
- To end the activity, swipe up on the bottom drawer, tap ‘Pause’ and then tap ‘Finish’
Garmin:
- Tap on the Garmin Link: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/448915424
- The Garmin Connect app will open and show the map.
- Tap on the “Send to Device” icon (looks like an arrow pointing to the middle of a watch) in the lower right corner. The next time you sync your watch, the map will be downloaded.
- At the trailhead:
- From the watch face, press START.
- Select an activity.
- Hold UP.
- Select Navigation > Courses.
- Select a course.
- Select Do Course.
- Navigation information appears.
- Press START to begin navigation.
- Turn Notifications have been turned “on” so your Garmin will beep/talk at you for upcoming turns, as well as notifying you of the next turn.
Other apps may be able to use an .gpx file; we are not able to post this file on the website or include as an attachment. Contact Steve or Tim to receive an email with this file.
