This is a mid-year review to all hike leaders of CHC Standing Rule 2.2.3:

Expectations of a Hike Leader and Hiking Rules and Guidelines.  The Pathfinder Committee will maintain a set of board approved Expectations of a Hike Leader and Hiking Rules and Guidelines on the CHC website, distribute it to new leaders and publish it annually in Newsteps.

Many of our hike leaders have been leading for years, some decades. However as with other things in life we need to remind ourselves of a few key points regarding leading.  

One is, lead the hike as described in the schedule, barring uncontrollable factors.  Members may choose to go on hikes based on the description in the schedule.  An example of this would be that your hike description only says APT and trails, then you should avoid streams, off trail and hills.  

Second reminder is when possible, cross streets at traffic lights or crosswalks, especially on busy streets.  Wait until all hikers have crossed before continuing.

Members rely on you as leaders to guide them safely along the trails, APT and streets.  Please follow the expectations and guidelines of hike leading to ensure their safety and enjoyment of your hikes.
